Sandra Vlock and Glenn Arbonies have built their practice from a unique personal and professional relationship with the late Charles W. Moore, FAIA, and his legacy of innovation and collaboration in architecture.
Sandra was influenced by Charles Moore at a young age. Both her parents were clients of Moore while he was Dean of Architecture at Yale.
In 1971, as a visiting design juror at Washington University in St. Louis, Charles Moore participated in Glenn’s graduate thesis presentation. Two years later, Glenn was invited to join Charles Moore Associates in Essex, Connecticut, and soon became partner in the subsequent firm, Moore Grover Harper.
While at Moore Grover Harper (now Centerbrook Architects), Glenn was the Managing Partner for the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, recipient of the 1986 AIA Honor Award. Glenn, Sandra, and Richard King, (former AKV partner), also collaborated with Charles Moore in the design of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
In 1990, Glenn Arbonies, Sandra Vlock, and Richard King launched their firm with the Palmer Museum of Art project at Penn State, working with Charles Moore as collaborating architect. Arbonies King Vlock was the first out-of-state architect ever commissioned by the University.
